Don’t let anger control you

I allowed myself to get so upset with someone last night that I ended up with chest pains and my blood pressure soared so high that I was seeing stars.  I was already having a day where I felt overwhelmed because I was doing so many things, and here I allowed some fool to just push me over the edge. 

Open Letter – Dear You (part 1)

This open letter is the result of a conversation I had in my head.  It is a conversation that I imagined having with someone who plays a big role in the dysfunction of a precious family I know.  Although the family’s situation is  different than my own, I can relate to the position the wife of this family is in.  Only because my past experience, though not the same, brought the same feelings of pain, hurt, and anger.  Out of those negative feelings, I did write my own letter at the time (years ago).  God has delivered me from such a place in life, but it does hurt me when others go through what I went through, or what this family goes through today.

As I had the conversation in my head, I thought it best to write it out and pen it here.  I truly believe that many can relate, and perhaps, some could very well be the target of the words I’m about to express. 

Everyone who is WITH you isn’t FOR you!

If you read any one of the three Synoptic Gospel writing accounts (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), you will find that there was always a large following of Jesus Christ.  In most cases, they were referred to as the “multitude”.  There were large crowds of people.  Most followed Jesus for good reason.  They wanted to learn more of Him, they wanted to be blessed, healed, delivered, forgiven.  They wanted everything that we today want from Jesus.

Yet, everyone in the crowd was not there for pure and innocent reasons.  The multitude was filtered with diversity, nay sayers, enemies, and those who wanted to destroy Him.

Why should life be any different for us?

I have a confession to make.  Way back in the day, back when I was a teenager, I once had a pen pal who was an inmate in some prison.  If you’re reading my blog, you probably remember what a pen pal was.  In fact, you probably  had pen pals yourself.  And some of you may  have even connected with inmates as well.

For me, I used to read, read, read.  Loved reading books and magazines.  I always thought that I would indeed end up writing for a magazine.  At least, I wanted to.  I’ve been dreaming of being a contributor for Essence magazine for as long as I can remember.

Will Smith in Seven Pounds

I had the pleasure of watching the new Will Smith movie, Seven Pounds, this past weekend.  To read a full synopsis & more on the movie, click here.  It is my desire to share my insight and not to reveal the movie’s content.  Mostly because for me, personally, to read so much about a movie before seeing it for myself spoils it.  So keep that in mind before you go to the site I’ve given you in the above link.

I usually do not read or watch reviews before watching a movie. 

LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED

It has been a rollercoast of emotions this week for me.  It has gotten so that I don’t know what to expect each day.  So far, after arising in good spirits, I have received news of two deaths.  One of my friends, Michael Sears (read my blog post “I Heard The Bells” and listen to my voice blog “For Everything There is a Season”), and the other of Mrs. Jones (read my blog post “No Regrets”) who is part of my husband’s family.  All very sad.  My prayers remain with the Sears and Jones families. 

On the other hand, I’m feeling happy because God is blessing me in ministry.  Allowing me to be a blessing and impacting others in a positive way.  Allowing His light to shine through me.  God is using me as His vessel, as His instrument.  This is all that I desire in life.  It really is.  I don’t ask for much.  I don’t need much.  I just want to be a blessing.

IT’S SNOWING!

This definitely is not my first time seeing snow, but it does always amaze me when I do.  We’re not accustomed to snowy weather here in the South.  Frankly, I only like the beauty of the snow, but not the reality of it.  As I am typing, at 8:36 am on Thursday, December 11, 2008, it is snowing pretty heavily.

‘Fore Day In The Morning

Do you know what ‘fore day in the morning is?  It simply means BEFORE day break.  My mother used to say that term quite often.

• “Why are y’all up ‘fore day in the morning?”
• “We’re leaving ‘fore day in the morning.”
• “Quiet as ‘fore day in the morning.”

NEW WORLD

Last month, I shared my strong and impassioned thoughts on the negative campaigning that erupted from the McCain / GOP camp.  My feelings remain the same this day, the day after a historical victory – the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States.

WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN?

The climate definitely is proving that all is not fair in politics.  That’s probably why I hate politics and don’t really concern myself with political matters.  Well, our Presidential election and this campaign does concern me, so I have an interest.

Of course I have my opinions on the candidates and I have made them known from time-to-time.  I have also made my choice as to who I am voting for.  So, if my choice of the Obama/Biden ticket draws a counter reaction in you, perhaps you don’t want to read any further.  Without apology, defense, or the need to seek approval, my choice is made and it is a firm decision.  This post is not about my choice (or even yours), but I will make my feelings clear on what is agitating me right now about the entire political climate and most specifically about the McCain/Palin (trying to keep from laughing) ticket.

My big concern is the question, What are we teaching our children?
